Birthdays and graduation
The team of volunteers from the companies Zarah Moden and New Fashion visited the inhabitants of the Saint Catherine Home in Imper on June 15th. On this occasion, we were joined by Mr. Wilhelm Wegener, Honorary Citizen of Târgu-Secuiesc, the founder of both companies.
The primary purpose of our visit was the birthday party of some of the children. We celebrated Tamáska, Imola, Blanka, Jázmin, Jánoska, Hajnika and József with the occasion of their birthdays. Aside from the huge cake, every child got a special present, one that they wished for a long time. The rest of the kids living in the home also got small gifts, sweets, and delicious home baked cookies made by our volunteers. We kept in mind the two students who graduated from 8th grade as well, and gave them presents. We wish them good luck for their exams and their further studies.
In addition, the little ones from the home in Imper started learning Romanian a while ago. We heard their linguistic improvement ourselves, they sung us short songs and recited poems with the help of our colleague, Mária Imre. Mária visits the home four times per week to teach the children. She said the kids grew close to her heart on her very first day, whom did not know how to speak Romanian very well, and a few of them had somewhat of a distaste for the language too. “In just one month I have succeeded in achieving my primary goal: the children changed their attitudes towards the language and actually grew to love learning it. Since I started teaching them, some students say Romanian became their favorite subject. I am especially thankful that even the naughtiest kids make an effort not to get on my nerves.”, Mária said.
Szabolcs Hunor Kedves said a few words to thank us in the name of the home’s inhabitants, quote: “If it were not for you, our lives would be much harder.” Thank you Szabolcs, our lives would be much harder also, were it not for you, where else would we go to get the kind of love you so kindly offer?
Mr. Wegener congratulated the educators who work in the home for their strenuous work, for their caring after the children and their meticulous methods. He also congratulated Father Böjte, mentor of the home for his work and effort to help orphaned and financially disadvantaged children and his fight for them in the Romanian bureaucratic system. Furthermore, Mr. Wegener expressed his acknowledgement of the collaboration between non-governmental organizations and private individuals in Târgu-Secuiesc, to better the lives of these kids and the community as well.
After everyone had their share of cake, the children took part in fun handcraft activities, held by Katalin Csavar-Mátis, associate of the Pro Pectus Association.
